Jon Boats

Jon boats are basic open rough boats that are suitable for sport fishermen or to use as a transport boat in shallow waters. These types of boats are usually flat-bottomed with a square stern and this why they perform so well in shallow and calm waters.

Jon boats have been around for a long time and are usually fitted with an outboard motor. Originally they were always constructed in wood and there are still Jon boats made of wood to find on the market. The most common materials today are aluminum, polyethylene and fiberglass. Fiberglass is also suitable for salty water. Polyethylene is very good if you want a boat that’s a bit stronger since it can forgive quite a few rough beats. Avoid dragging this type of Jon boat over rough surfaces though.
